NSW RFS providing assistance to British Columbia firefighters‏

Summary

Australian emergency services personnel, including NSW RFS specialists, continue to provide valuable assistance to Canadian firefighters battling wildfires in British Columbia.

About 30 Australians have been assigned to work on fires at Chelaslie River and Mount McAllister, with the rest deployed to firegrounds across BC.

The BC Wildfire Management Branch reports 2200 firefighters are working on 84 active fires, supported by 900 contract and operations staff. So far this season the BC wildfires have burnt 290,000 hectares.

The Australian team leaders say everyone has settled in well and are fulfilling a number of roles, including Incident Management, fire behaviour, logistics, operations and Helibase management.
