Notified the Fire Control Center before lighting up

Summary

Over the last few weeks our Orana volunteers have been called out to deal with fires that turned out to be intentional burns but because the land holder had not notified the Fire Control Center before lighting up, the duty officer was required to activate a brigade to investigate.

To avoid our volunteers being called out unnecessarily, and avoid the risk of breaching the law , landholders are reminded that it is a legal requirement to give 24hrs notice to their neighbors and the relevant fire authority ( NSW RFS or Fire and Rescue NSW depending on your location) before lighting a fire in the open.

The following link to the RFS web site has some useful information regarding you responsibilities when lighting a fire.
