Evans Head (Richmond Valley) Fire Update – 8.30pm 3/10/07
Posted: 03/10/2007Crews are continuing work tonight on a fire burning near Evans Head.
The fire has burnt out more than 1400 hectares of national park and private property.
Crews conducted backburning operations around Evans Head throughout the day.
Woodburn Street near the bridge, Evans Road and Bundjalung Street remain closed to all traffic, except for residents.
Fire fighters will continue to patrol around Evans Head throughout the night and over the coming days residents may see smoke haze from the fire.
Residents in the Korrindiri Ridge area are advised to continue preparing their properties.
Throughout the day residents experienced the effect of smoke and ash, however, no properties were under direct threat from the fire.
Gap Road remains closed to all traffic except residents. Fire fighters will be working around the Serendipity Road area tomorrow in order to consolidate containment lines.
All fire permits in the Richmond Valley area remain suspended at this time.
