Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai celebrates new Support Brigade station

Summary

Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Support Brigade members today celebrated the official opening of their new station, which features infrastructure and resources that will help members provide the local community with an even higher level of fire protection through support to the other Brigades.

Member for Hornsby Matt Kean and NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons joined brigade members at a ceremony to mark the occasion, where they inspected the new facility and thanked them for their ongoing commitment to the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District and the Service.

Mr Kean said the $1.3m station, located next to the Hornsby Fire Control Centre at Cowan, features vehicle bays, office space, dedicated storage, parking area, bathroom amenities and technological connectivity to the adjoining Fire Control Centre.

“This new station is a vast improvement to the former demountable shed and along with the Brigade putting all of these new facilities to good use, the facility will also be used by the wider District for logistical requirements,” Mr Kean said.

Commissioner Fitzsimmons said the NSW RFS, working cooperatively with the state and local governments, is committed to providing volunteer firefighters with the equipment, infrastructure and resources they need to carry out the important work of protecting their local communities from fire and a diverse array of incidents.

“I congratulate the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Support Brigade members for their hard work, dedication and patience as this brand new structure has been planned and completed,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

“I would also like to thank Hornsby Council for their commitment to bringing this project to fruition.

“This station is a testament to how diligently and tirelessly the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Support Brigade volunteers continue to work, providing pivotal support to front line firefighters.

“These men and women remain on-hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we should be extremely proud and grateful for their contribution.”
