Summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) confirms the death of a volunteer firefighter in the Palerang region.

The male volunteer was in attendance at a vehicle fire at the remote Bendethra Camping area in the Deua National Park when he suffered a suspected heart attack late yesterday afternoon.

Due to the remote location, fellow volunteers provided initial medical assistance including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator.

The member was treated by ambulance officers however tragically passed away.

NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said the Service's condolences are with the member’s family and friends, fellow crew and brigade members.

“We are offering every assistance possible to the volunteer’s family and fellow members," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

“We will continue to offer whatever help is required."

No further details are available at this stage while NSW RFS personnel work with Service members and the man’s family.
