The fire is burning south of Nerong in the Myall Lakes National Park area, to the east of the Pacific Highway and west of the Myall River has been brought under control.

This will be the final update for this fire unless conditions change.

Current Situation

  • The fire burnt more than 6,440 hectares in size and is under control.
  • Over coming days, crews will continue to mop up and black out and monitor for any hotspots across the fireground.
  • Helicopters using thermal imaging cameras continue to work to identify hot spots, which are being mopped up and blacked out by firefighters.
  • There may still be the need to some local road closures, this includes the Mungo Brush Road.
  • Access for boats has been closed on the Myall River from north of Tea Gardens to Bombah Broadwater, for safety and to allow for firefighting operations from the water.
  • Multiple campgrounds within the Myall Lakes National Park are closed.

What you need to do

  • People in the vicinity of Nerong and Monkey Jacket may notice small pockets of bushland continue to burn within containment lines over coming days and weeks.
  • Firefighters will continue to patrol the fireground over coming days and monitor for hotspots. Only report unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).
