Hornsby Ku-ring-gai RFS members honoured for dedicated service

Summary

The dedication and commitment of thirty-eight RFS volunteers from across the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District will be recognised today at a special ceremony at the Fire Control Centre in Cowan.

RFS Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Greg Wardle will join guests at the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Fire Control Centre to present eight National Medals and 30 Long Service Medals, acknowledging the remarkable dedication and service provided by these worthy recipients.

Chief Superintendent Wardle said with years of service ranging from 10 to 58 years, many of these volunteers have dedicated a significant portion of their life to protecting others and deserve our gratitude.

“The professionalism of all RFS members does not go unnoticed and while they don’t do the work for praise, their contribution and commitment to the community is outstanding,” Chief Superintendent Wardle said

“I thank each recipient for their selfless dedication, with a special mention of Graham Hughes, who is being recognised for an impressive 58 years of service.

“Originally joining Hornsby Heights Brigade in 1965, Graham is a member of the Support Brigade achieving various qualifications along the way such as Crew Leader and First Aid,” Chief Superintendent Wardle said

“I also recognise Alan Barewell who is being presented with the National Medal, a testament to the integrity and commitment he has displayed for protecting the community.

“A respected leader at Cherrybrook Brigade, Alan has assisted in callouts during incidents and campaigns ensuring skilled crew are on scene for essential field operations.

“A special mention also to Cathie Moore of the Westleigh & Hornsby Ki-ring-gai Communications Brigade, who has held various roles over her 25-year tenure as RFS volunteer. Cathie is actively involved in both operational and administrative activities displaying her enthusiasm for helping communities in time of need.

“RFS members are resilient and hard-working. Today we honour the dedication they all share to protecting communities who need help when needed.

Chief Superintendent Wardle also acknowledged those who support volunteers in what they do.

“I thank the family, friends, employers and colleagues of all RFS volunteers,” he said.

“We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and property.”
