About our district

The Blue Mountains is a unique world heritage area and also one of the most bushfire prone areas in the World. The population across the district is 75,000 people who live in, or in the vicinity of 27 towns and villages across the Mountains. The local government area covers 143,000 hectares of land in the Greater Sydney Region. About 70 per cent of the area is incorporated into the World Heritage Blue Mountains National Park, with approximately 11 per cent of the total land area in private ownership.
