NSW RFS Insignia and name

Clauses in the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989 (SERM Act) relate to the use (manufacture or selling) of articles displaying the NSW RFS insignia.

Anyone manufacturing or selling items bearing any and all forms of insignia must be specifically authorised to do so.

The SERM Act cites the manufacture and/or selling of emergency service’s insignia as an offence unless a defence can be established. The approval process is part of that defence.

A new application form will be available in the near future. In the meantime please email comms@rfs.nsw.gov.au with the following information to request approval:

  • Contact name:
  • Contact number:
  • Contact Email:
  • Description of item:
  • Quantity to be produced:
  • How will the item be distributed?
  • Name of manufacturer/supplier:
  • Contact details of manufacturer/supplier:
  • Elements of the insignia to be reproduced:
  • Customised wording being incorporated:

Please attach an illustration of the item to be produced specifically showing the detail of wording, placement and design of NSW RFS insignia elements.

Please ensure that the proposed manufacturer has been made aware of the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989 No 165 in relation to reproducing the Services insignia and that the items design meets the requirements of the NSW RFS Brand Guidelines.
