Hazard Reduction Notification


Please be advised that on behalf of the Blue Mountains Bush Fire Management Committee (BMBFMC), the National Parks and Wildlife Service and NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) intend to undertake Hazard Reduction (HR) burning, weather permitting, at the following location this week:


Date:                     Friday May 20 and Saturday May 21, 2016
Name of HR:       Pitts Amphitheatre
Location:            1 km south of Katoomba and 2km south of Leura in Blue Mountains National Park 
                             between Echo Point, Sublime Lookout and Mt Solitary 
Size:                    738 hectares
Lead Agency:    National Parks and Wildlife Service
Duration:            2 days followed by patrol
Closures:            Sublime Point Fire Trail,
                             Federal Pass Walking Track from Golden Stairs to Scenic World,
                             Federal Pass Walking Track from Furber steps to Leura Forest
                             (Note: Scenic World and Furber steps will remain open)
                              Dardenelles Pass,
                              Ruined Castle Walking Track,
                              Mount Solitary Walking TRack from Ruined Castle to Kedumba Pass,
                              Kedumba Pass, and 
                              Kedumba clearing camping area.
Under forecast conditions, smoke may affect mid-Mountains villages and the Great Western Highway. For health information relating to smoke from bush fires and hazard reduction burning, visit the NSW Health website or the Asthma Foundation.
