Summary
Each year, we pay our respects to our members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their community, at the Emergency Services Volunteer Memorial Service in Sydney.

The names of 71 NSW RFS volunteers are now displayed on the memorial, and this year the names of two of our members have been added.
Firefighter Jennifer Hankinson was a valued member of the Northern Rivers Aviation Support Brigade and Alstonville Brigade, as well as an active member of the State Emergency Service Ballina unit, who sadly passed away in June 2017 while undertaking maintenance with her crew mates at Casino Air Base.
Firefighter Jitte Nieuwenhuis, a valued and active member of the Krawarree Brigade for 20 years, was attending a fire in a remote region of the Deua National Park when he passed away in November 2016.
The memorial also contains the names of volunteers from the NSW State Emergency Service, Marine Rescue (including the Volunteer Coast Guard Association and Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol), and the Volunteer Rescue Association.
