Cumberland Macarthur RFS members honoured for dedicated service

Summary

The dedication and commitment of fifty-seven RFS volunteers from across the Cumberland Macarthur District will be recognised today at a special ceremony in Campbelltown.

RFS Assistant Commissioner Kelly Quandt AFSM will join guests to present nine National Emergency Medals, 19 National Medals, 27 Long Service Medals, a Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal, a Commissioner’s Commendation for Service and two Retired Group Officer Plaques.

The National Emergency Medal is awarded to persons who rendered sustained or significant service during nationally significant emergencies in Australia, including the 2019-20 bush fires.

Assistant Commissioner Quandt said with years of service ranging from 10 to 48 years, many of these volunteers have dedicated a significant portion of their life to protecting others and are worthy of thanks.

“The professionalism of all RFS members does not go unnoticed and while they don’t do the work for praise, their contribution and commitment to the community is outstanding,” Assistant Commissioner Quandt said.

“I thank each recipient for their selfless dedication, with a special mention of John Noble, who is being recognised for an impressive 48 years of dedicated service.

“Originally joining the Menangle Park Brigade in 1976, John is currently Deputy Captain of the Wedderburn Brigade, whom he has been a member of for the last 20 years, as well as lending his musical ability to the Macarthur Pipes and Drums Brigade,” Assistant Commissioner Quandt said.

“I also recognise Deputy Captain Jeff Wood who is being presented with the Commissioner’s Commendation for Service, a testament to the integrity and commitment he has displayed for protecting the community.

“A respected leader with a focus on training and mentoring RFS members, Deputy Captain Wood has dedicated 36 years of distinguished service to the RFS and Macarthur District.

“A special mention also to Matthew Broadribb of the Menangle Brigade, who was deployed to Canada in 2017 and is being recognised for his humanitarian service with a medal that recognises the sustained service of members during significant emergencies in Australia and overseas.

“RFS members are resilient and hard-working. Today we honour not only the dedication to our own communities but also for those abroad who need help when fires strike.”

Assistant Commissioner Quandt also acknowledged those who support volunteers in what they do.

“I thank the family, friends, employers and colleagues of all RFS volunteers,” she said.

“We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and property.”
