Advice - Badja Forest Road, Countegany (Snowy Monaro, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley LGAs) 2020-01-25 08:10

A bush fire is burning over a large area between the Bega and Moruya areas. The fire is more than 262,000 hectares in size and is not under control.

Current Situation

  • Fire activity has eased across the fireground.
  • Favourable conditions are expected across the weekend.
  • Firefighters will continue working to slow the spread of the fire and establish containment lines.
  • The Princes Highway is now open
  • A number of local roads are closed due to fire, fallen trees and downed power lines.
  • This fire joined the Good Good fire in the west, the Werri Berri fire in the south west and will likely join the Clyde Mountain fire in the north.

Advice

Bumbo, Eurobodalla, Bodalla and Potato Point

  • If you are in the area, monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
  • Fallen trees and power lines continue to affect local roads.

Areas from Moruya to Tuross Head

  • Monitor the changing conditions.
  • Know what you will do if the fire threatens.

Wallaga Lake, Akolele, and Bermagui

  • Monitor conditions
  • Know what you will do if the fire threatens.

Murrah and Tanja - There is still pockets of active fire in the area. - Monitor conditions - Know what you will do if the fire threatens.

Coolagolite

  • If you are in the area, monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
  • It is not yet safe to return to the area.
  • Fallen trees and power lines continue to affect local roads.

Tilba and Mystery Bay area

  • Conditions have eased but there is still fire activity in the area.
  • Monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.

Dignams Creek

  • There is fire activity in the Dignams Creek area.
  • The Princes Highway has been impacted between Narooma and Dignams Creek however is open.
  • If you are in the area, monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
  • Fallen trees and power lines continue to affect local roads.

West Narooma - Wagonga Scenic Drive area

  • There remains areas of active fire in the area.
  • If you are in the area, monitor conditions and know what you will do if the fire threatens.

If you are threatened by fire

  • Do not be in the path of the fire.
  • Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
  • If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
  • If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
  • If you are in an area that has already been affected by fire, there may be small areas of active fire burning for some time. Be aware of the dangers of trees and branches falling.

Other Information

  • Stay up to date on bush fires in your area by checking the NSW RFS website, listening to your local radio station, or by calling the NSW RFS Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 679 737.
  • People with respiratory conditions who are affected by bush fire smoke should activate their health management plan and seek medical advice if necessary. Take precautions, such as staying indoors and closing windows.
