A Total Fire Ban has been declared for Lower Central West Plains tomorrow, Wednesday 6 April 2016 due to forecast hot and windy conditions.

Some of the New England area’s most experienced volunteer firefighters have been celebrated today for their longstanding commitment to helping protect their local communities from the destruction of fire.

Longstanding volunteers from the Chifley Zone area were honoured last night by the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) for their ongoing commitment to the local community.

Today marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) in NSW after much of the state experienced a relatively quiet fire season. With predictions of a long and difficult season due to a strong El Nino weather pattern in the Pacific, NSW was spared the worst after good rainfall at the right time across the season.

NSW and ACT emergency service agencies have coordinated 140 personnel to assist in the current fire emergency in Tasmania including 100 remote area firefighters, 35 incident management and liaison personnel and five paramedics, along with thirty trucks and two aircraft.

Nineteen students from St Edmunds School are being congratulated today for their successful completion of the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Secondary School Cadet Program.

More than 6500 students have completed the Secondary School Cadet Program since it began and today the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) welcomed a further eighteen young firefighters to its ranks.
