About our area

Orana Team is located in the Central Western Region of NSW incorporating the local government areas of Dubbo, Narromine and Wellington. The landscape is predominately flat with some mountainous terrain with the remaining area open woodland.

Orana's recent section 44 incidents has included a pre-emptive this past fire season with predictions of extreme weather, along with s44 incidents occurring in the Goonoo National Park and on private and Crown land near Stuart Town.

The Orana area has a significant amount of bushland available to burn. To this end, Orana has been active during appropriate times this winter in carrying out hazard reductions in conjunction with the other agencies. Volunteers worked really well with other fire agencies during the last couple of years to complete around 2500ha of burning in the area, the largest burns being; Murrungundy HR at Goonoo (1400ha), Glen Isla at Goobang (400+ha), Dickedin Ridge at Wuuluman(30ha) and the Zoo (16ha).

Volunteers and Staff within Orana have been working to provide community education across the Orana Team via a series of Community Meetings. The aim of these meetings is to provide landowners with information about how to best prepare their properties for the coming fire season and to give them the knowledge to make an informed decision if they are faced with high risk fire weather or a fire in their area. In consultation with other brigades, it is hoped that more of these events will be rolled out. Staff have also initiated a new pilot program 'Woman with Flair' emphasising the role woman play in fire prevention and protection on their properties and families.
