Dubbo firefighters look to defend their title

A championship-winning team of volunteer firefighters from the Dubbo district will look to defend their title and turn up the heat on their peers this month.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Orana team's Dubbo Headquarters Brigade will go up against 13 other teams at a competition that tests their skills in real-life emergency scenarios.
About 200 volunteer firefighters will participate in the biennial NSW RFS State Championships on September 12 to 14.

The Orana team will be represented by a total of 22 volunteers from Dubbo headquarters, Elong Elong, Comobella and Ballimore brigades as well as the Orana Cadets.
They will travel to Pambula on the Far South Coast to compete.
NSW RFS Superintendent Lyndon Wieland said the local volunteers would test their ability, training and teamwork in a range of real-life emergency scenarios.
"The NSW RFS State Championships bring together crews from all corners of the state to enjoy two days of friendly competition and hone their emergency skills ahead of the bush fire season," he said.
"The competition is always tough but our volunteers are looking forward to testing themselves against the best in the state and maybe returning home with a trophy.
"In the lead-up to the state championships, our Orana teams have been working hard in their training and preparation but at the same time having plenty of fun."
