Scientific investigations of fire promote a range of skills including observation, questioning, predicting, testing and recording accurate results, analysing data and drawing conclusions. Students identify and describe various sources, forms, uses, transfers and changes in forms of energy. They explore how natural forces and human interaction cause changes to the Earth over time. Students identify the difference between natural and built environments and model built environments designed to suit the needs of users.
FireSafe offers a complete Science and Technology K-6 program for teachers. This program, made up of three Units, is derived from the Board of Studies (BOS) Syllabus. Teacher learning programs can be developed from this program.
FireSafe is a comprehensive resource for teachers comprised of several units from the Science and Technology syllabus for K – year 6 students. This program has been compiled using material from stages 1, 2 and 3 of the Board of Studies syllabus.
FireSafe 1 is for Stage 1 (Years K – 2) and includes topics: A place in Time; Back to Nature; Getting About; Kids Care; and Let’s Communicate
FireSafe 2 is for Stage 2 (Years 3 – 4) and includes topics: A Look Inside; Cycles in Our World; Indoor Outdoor; Keep in Touch; and Moving Pictures
FireSafe 3 is for Stage 3 (Years 5 – 6) and includes topics: A Change for the Better; An Ancient Land; Environment Matters; Light Up My Life; What’s the Weather?
