Pre-school and Early Childhood Resources

Young children need to know how to get help in an emergency.

Students explore their immediate environment by using the senses, questioning, sharing ideas and identifying simple cause and- effect relationships. They identify and safely use some equipment to explore.  They recognise different forms of energy and identify its use in daily life. Students identify ways in which the environment influences daily life. They explore the properties of both natural and made materials.  Students explore ideas, manipulate materials and trial designs through play to develop products and built environments.

Young children need to know that matches and lighters are tools not toys. Their natural inclination to copy adult behaviour can lead to them experimenting with matches, lighters and other equipment to create fire. It is vital for teachers to educate to young children in order to prevent them from ‘playing’ with fire and provide them survival techniques to avoid serious injury.

A preschool fire safety program, to be successful, must involve parents as well as children. Your students will encourage parents and caregivers to be more aware of fire hazards around the home and be better prepared for a fire.
