Bush Fire period now starts November 1st 2016

Summary

Due to the wet seasonal conditions encountered in recent months the Bush Fire Danger Period in the Canobolas Zone will now commences on Tuesday 1 November 2016 for the Local Government areas of Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra and Orange.

The Bush Fire Danger period was to commence on Saturday 1 October 2016 but has now been delayed by one month.

Canobolas Zone Manager, Superintendent David Hoadley said the extremely wet conditions and lush grass growth have reduced the threat from bush fires and this has allowed for the delay to the start of the Danger period.

“It is still important that landholders wishing to undertake any burning off activities or lighting any fire in the open prior to 1 November to notify their neighbours and the Canobolas Zone Fire Control Centre before lighting that fire,” Superintendent Hoadley said.

“From 1 November 2016 landowners wishing to undertake any burning off activities, or any fire in the open, will require a Fire Permit.”

Fire Permits will be available from your local permit officer or by contacting the Canobolas Zone office on 6363 6666.

Further information on fire safety and fire season preparation can be obtained from the Canobolas Zone website http://www.canobolas.rfs.nsw.gov.au .

“While the NSW Rural Fire Service has delayed the commencement of the Bush Fire Danger Period, we are still expecting to have above average bush fire activity during late Spring and Summer,” Superintendent Hoadley said.

“There is currently a large amount of grass growth across the entire area and when this dries off it will create ideal conditions for bush fires.

“I urge people to take preparations now and reduce bush fire risk by mowing around buildings and undertaking other hazard reduction activities prior the start of the Bush Fire Danger season.”
