Summary

The Trajere Nyrang Creek long service medals were presented to 33 recipients during the ceremony on August 14th. The impressive thing was the total years of service, which stood at 1347. Below is a list of all those recipients.

Warren Frazer is receiving the Long Service Medal for 12 years service as a member of the Trajere Brigade. 

John Tidsley is receiving the Long Service Medal for 14 years service as a member of the Trajere Brigade.   John is currently a Deputy Captain.

Tim is receiving the Long Service Medal and 1st Clasp for 28 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade. Tim is currently the Brigade's vice president.  He also joined North Bangaroo Rural Fire Brigade as a dual member in 2003 and has been a Deputy Captain with that Brigade since 2007.  He also held the role of Vice President from 2010 to 2011.

David is receiving the Long Service Medal and 1st Clasp for 31 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade. David held the role of Deputy Captain from 2005 to 2012 when he took over the role of Senior Deputy Captain.    David has attended many incidents since joining the Brigade in 1996 and is well respected by Brigade members.

Kevin Townsend

Kevin is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st and 2nd Clasp for 31 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade.

During his time with the Brigade Kevin was a dependable and reliable member.  He recently left the Brigade as he has moved out of the area due to work commitments.

Ray Townsend

Ray is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st and 2nd Clasp for 31 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade.

Ray took on the role of Deputy Captain in 2012 including the Secretary and Treasurer's roles.   Ray's father Tony held the role of Secretary/Treasurer from 1958 until 2012 when Ray took over these roles when Tony retired.   He has also always been actively involved with the Brigade activities including local hazard reduction burning.

Oliver has held the role of Deputy Captain with the Brigade since 1990 and has attended many incidents during that time. 

He continues to be an active and reliable member of the Brigade.

Andrew is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st and 2nd Clasp for 34 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade.

Andrew has been a life time resident of the Trajere district with Andrew's parents and other family members also calling Trajere home.   He is currently the Principle of the Gundermain Feedlot.

Andrew took over the Captain's role in 2012 from his father Don, who had held the role from 1980.

Robbie is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd and 3rd Clasp for 40 years service with the Moorbel and Nyrang Creek Rural Fire Brigades.

Robbie has been a very active member of both Brigades and has attended numerous incidents since joining the RFS in 1972.  He held of role of Deputy Captain with the Moorbel Brigade from 1990 to 2006.  In 2010 he took on the role of Captain with the Nyrang Creek Brigade.  He is also the brigades Permit Officer.

Robbie is a dedicated and committed member, always ready to lend a hand.  He is also a well known and respected member of the Canowindra community.

Greg is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd and 3rd Clasp for 40 years service with the Nyrang Creek Rural Fire Brigade.

Greg held of role of Deputy Captain from 1980 to 2006, Captain from 2006 to 2009 and his currently in the Senior Deputy Captain role.

A local landholder, Greg has shown to be an effective part of the brigade assisting where he could in various brigade activities over the years and supporting the Nyrang Creek community through his involvement.

John has attended many incidents over the 41 years and has been involved in a lot of the Brigades activities during this time, especially ensuring the Brigade's equipment is well maintained.

His commitment and dedication to the Nyrang Creek Brigade and surrounding community are greatly appreciated.

Richard has held the role of Deputy Captain since 1980, attending many incidents during that time.

Still remaining active, his dedication to the brigade and Nyrang Creek community is well regarded.

John is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd and 3rd Clasp for 42 years service with the Nyrang Creek and Moorbel Rural Fire Brigades.

Over the years John has acted as a mentor, happily imparting his extensive fire skills and knowledge to the Nyrang Creek and Moorbel brigade members.

John has held the role of Deputy Captain with Nyrang Creek Brigade since 2011.  As a member of the Moorbel Brigade, he also held the role of Senior Deputy Captain from 1996 to 2009 and the Deputy Captain role from 2009 to 2011. He has also been a Permit Officer for many years.  When called to incidents, John is well known to turn up with a few of his mates to lend a hand.

His commitment and dedication to the NSW Rural Fire Service, Nyrang Creek and Moorbel Communities is greatly appreciated.

Kelvin is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd and 3rd Clasp for 43 years service with the Nyrang Creek Rural Fire Brigade.

Kelvin joined the Brigade in 1970 and has remained a long serving member, always ready to help out in any way he can.

As an active member of the Brigade for these years, Kelvin has attended many  incidents.  He has also been instrumental in his support of the Brigade's activities and assisting the community of Nyrang Creek.

Detre is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd and 3rd Clasp for 43 years service with the Trajere and Mt Pleasant Rural Fire Brigades.

Detre joined both Brigades in 1970 and has remained a long serving member ever since. 

Detre and her late husband Richard were very reliable and dependable members, always ready to lend a hand and diligently attended to all tasks required of them.

Detre is well respected in the Trajere and Mt Pleasant communities and still retains her community spirit, happily providing assistance to both Brigades and community when required.

Jack Barnes

Jack is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd and 3rd Clasp for 43 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade.

Along with providing numerous volunteer hours as a first responder with the Ambulance Service, Jack has also been instrumental over the years in providing first aid to RFS volunteers and residents of the Eugowra District. 

During the 2001 fires in and around Eugowra, Jack worked tirelessly attending to the many injuries incurred by the volunteer firefighters and had his first aid kit ready when a large fire broke out in the Nangar National Park last fire season, again attending to the volunteers who required first aid treatment. 

Jack was also very instrumental in getting a Burnaid Emergency Burn Kit on every Canobolas Zone tanker.  The kits were donated by Cadia Mine in 2010.

Jack is well known and respected in the Eugowra district and continues to provide first aid assistance to all who require it.  His dedication is acknowledged and greatly appreciated.

John joined the Brigade in 1966 and has remained a long serving member ever since.  As an active member of the Brigade for these years, John has attended many incidents and has held the role of Deputy Captain since 1980.  He has also been instrumental in his support of the Brigade's activities and assisting the Nyrang Creek community.

John's service to the community of New South Wales is greatly appreciated and acknowledged.

Tony has been an effective member of the Brigade assisting where he can in various brigade activities and supporting the Nyrang Creek community through his involvement.  He is well regarded by all Brigade members.

His efforts and assistance are gratefully acknowledged by the brigade, his community and the Canobolas Zone for 50 years of service.

Peter Townsend

Peter is a local landholder and is well respected by the brigade members and Trajere community.   He has attended many incidents and has seen many changes to fire fighting over the 53 years he has been involved with the Brigade.  He has also been very supportive to the new members who have joined over the years.

His commitment and dedication to the Trajere Brigade and surrounding community is greatly appreciated.

Ross Herbert

Ross is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th Clasp for 55 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade.

Ross joined the brigade in the 1958 and over the years built a reputation for dependability and reliability.  Unfortunately, current health issues have now restricted Ross's involvement with Brigade activities.  However, the family tradition lives on with his son David taking over the firefighting role.  David has big shoes to fill.

Colin is a well known local in the Trajere community and has shown to be an effective part of the brigade assisting where he can in various brigade activities and supporting the Trajere community through his involvement.

Anthony Townsend

Tony is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th Clasp for 55 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade.

Tony has had over 55 years active service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade. Tony's father Bernie held the position of secretary/treasurer for the Brigade from 1928 until his death in 1958 when Tony took over both roles, holding these until last year where he was succeeded by his son Raymond.

Tony has attended almost all fires that have occurred in the Eugowra area during his 55 years with the Trajere Brigade and has always maintained the Trajere tanker which had been housed on his property "Glenavy".  As a man of positive action, Tony was one of the first to install an airstrip on his Eugowra property for the benefit of fire fighting, this airstrip was integral to managing larger fire events due to its reticulated water supply capability.  During 2004 Tony worked with Canobolas Zone management to realise the installation of a 240,000 litre water tank and was successful in gaining an RFSA grant to allocate an aviation foam mixing trailer unit. 

Tony served as a Deputy Group Captain for the Cabonne district from around 1985 to 2001, when the Group boundaries were altered.  He is a very dedicated and well respected member of the Trajere Brigade and the local community.

Tony has been diligent in his duties as secretary/treasurer for the Brigade and whenever the brigade is called, he is the one to ensure that there is always an adequate number of members ready to attend and deal effectively with any incident that Brigade members may be faced with.

Dugald Wright

Dugald is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th Clasp for 58 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade.

Dugald has been an active member of the Trajere Brigade and attended many incidents over his 58 years as a Brigade member.  He held the role of Senior Deputy Captain from 1980 until 2012.   When Dugald attended a fire at Kevin Howell's residence, he was instrumental in saving the residence by his quick action in preventing flames from spreading to other rooms.

Dugald has seen many changes to fire fighting over the years and has been very supportive to new members who have joined the Brigade.   Dugald has been the Brigade's Permit Officer since 2005 and continues to be an active and supportive member of the Brigade and Trajere community.

Bruce Herbert

Bruce is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th Clasp for 60 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade. 

Bruce joined the Trajere Brigade in 1950 as a teenager and retired 60 years later in 2010. During his 60 years with the Brigade, Bruce proved to be a dependable and active response member, attending numerous incidents.  Bruce also served as Brigade Captain for many years, handing the role over to another member in 1977.

Bruce is now retired and living in Canowindra.

Dennis Abbott

Dennis is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th Clasp for 62 years service with the Nyrang Creek Rural Fire Brigade. 

Dennis commenced with the Nyrang Creek Brigade in 1951 whilst still in his teenage years.  He is a local landholder and is an iconic figure in the Nyrang Creek district. 

Dennis has attended numerous fires and over the years has been happy to impart his wealth of knowledge and experience to other brigade members.

Dennis has been a loyal and dedicated member for over 62 years and is highly respected by the Brigade and Nyrang Creek community.  His contribution is greatly appreciated and Brigade members wish him all the best in his retirement.

Don is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th Clasp for 62 years service with the Trajere Rural Fire Brigade. 

Don joined the Trajere Brigade in 1950 as a teenager.  He quickly became a valued and respected member of the Brigade, being voted in as Captain in 1994, a position which he held until 2012 when his son Andrew took over the role.   Don has also been a Permit Officer for the Brigade since 2005.

Don and his wife Joan are taking time off to do some well earned travel.

Max Loomes

Max is receiving the Long Service Medal, 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th Clasp for 63 years service with the Nyrang Creek Rural Fire Brigade. 

Max commenced with the Nyrang Creek Brigade in 1950 whilst still in his teenage years.  He is a local landholder and is an iconic figure in the Nyrang Creek district. 

Organisationally the Brigade benefited from Max's input and others like him in the early days of the Brigade and has been a key contributor to much of what we take today for granted.  Max was a Deputy Captain from 1980 to 2008, Senior Deputy Captain from 2008 to 2009 and he took on the Captain's role from 2009 to 2010.  Max was also the Brigade Secretary from 2002 to 2008.

Over the years Max has been very diligent in attending several fires in the Nangar National Park. He has been a loyal and dedicated member over the 63 years and his efforts and assistance are gratefully acknowledged by the brigade, his community and the Canobolas Zone for 63 years of service.
