Fire Activity Update 4/1/2019

Summary

Today has been pretty successful with the Masons Gap, Monaghan’s Road and Fabe Kerin fires set at “Patrol”

8pm Update

The day started early though with almost simultaneous ignitions at Cumnock then Manildra tips before 7am. Both Cumnock and Manildra RFB’s had enough to deal with assisting with managing Ginghams Gap and Monoghans Road fires.

Lightning 4a

Lightning 5a

Monaghan’s Rd

With the assistance of the JA Ross Dozer access was opened up for tankers and crews set about blacking out. Most of the job was done by early afternoon and the Dozer was redeployed to assist Red Hill at the Masons Ridge lightning strike.

Masons Ridge

This fire was a tree and a small area spotted late on Thursday by B223 who managed to get a load on it before last light. Unfortunately it couldn’t be located by crews in the dark and lack of access required heavy plant assistance. Old trails were opened up and by late afternoon the offending tree and surrounds were dealt with by ground crews. This fire is now at Patrol.

Ginghams Gap

The largest of our fires required some clean up work by the Morrison Dozer and Culverson Grader early in the day. Cat 7’s were deployed along with 3 NPWS Cat 9’s to finalise containment and mop up. HT224 was engaged to assist providing buckets where required.

Later in the day a Strike Team of 4 tankers was made up from the North West and Orange Brigades to provide additional water and support to the foreground. This fire is now at contained.

The Crews and HT224 will return tomorrow.

Others

Last night additional grass fires were responded to at Canowindra and on Peabody Road, the Moorbel, Molong and Gamboola Brigades dealt with these swiftly.

Windy weather returns tomorrow (Saturday) ahead of a SW change then a little cooler temps for a few days.
