Kangaroo Ute Incident

Summary

One of our vehicles was hit by a kangaroo in November 2017.

A reminder to take care on the roads with the high number of wildlife around at the moment. On the weekend, one of our vehicles was hit by a kangaroo. The kangaroo remarkably went through the windshield, into the vacant front passenger seat and then through the rear window and out the back window of the vehicles canopy.

The vehicle was third in a row of several vehicles  travelling under the speed limit as part of a RFS group  attending a community communications event at Carcoar very early in the morning. The kangaroo came from the side and jumped at windscreen height, it did not touch the bonnet, roof or anything else on the way through. The driver did not see it and therefore did not have time to react.

The purpose of this post was to serve as a cautionary tale about wildlife on the road and for road users to take care.  Our volunteers are often the first on scene at accidents on rural roads. We take road safety very seriously. As stated in the post, we are extraordinarily relieved that the driver was unharmed.Words can not express how relieved we were that there was just the one person in the vehicle who escaped completely unharmed. So please be careful on the roads and watch out for wildlife.
