Orange car fires: Vehicle burned beyond recognition in Kinross State Forest

Police are working to identify the make, model and ownership of a car that was burned beyond recognition in Kinross State Forest on Monday night.

Central West Police District Chief Inspector Dave Harvey said police and fire crews were called to the blaze on a fire trail in the forest about 6.25pm

He said the fire also burned surrounding bushland.

Chief Inspector Harvey said police had been unable to identify the car at the scene and Orange detectives were working on the case.

"Police are seeking assistance from the community," he said.

RFS Clifton Grove Ophir Brigade senior deputy Glen Foley-Gallagher said the car was found ablaze on a accessible only by 4WD vehicles.

He said the fire melted the car's engine.

Mr Foley-Gallagher said two tankers attended and fire crews were at the scene for about two hours.

It was the fourth car set alight around Orange in the past four days and follows six other car blazes over Easter.
