$1000 for RFS cadets

$1000 for RFS cadets

Summary

The Young Witness

Donges Supa IGA has donated another $1000 to the South West Slopes Rural Fire Service cadets from their annual community chest.

It's also thanks to the Young community who help out with such donations by buying IGA products which sees a percentage of that money go into the community chest.

The cadets, their coach Samuel Tout, learning and development officer for the South West Slopes Zone David Nicholson and volunteer bush firefighter Trevor Reevers gratefully accepted the money which will go towards equipment.

"We are very thankful for the donation – it makes us very proud to have Donges as a sponsor," Trevor said.

"And it's like Robert said, you wouldn't do it if you didn't want to."

Wendy Silk from Donges Supa IGA said they have donated between $40,000 and $50,000 to the RFS cadets for 10 years.

"We've always donated money to the RFS and we choose to keep doing that – they do it pretty tough for funding," Wendy said.

"They usually call us up what supplies and food they need when there's a fire – like the recent big fires we've had in the area – and we go out of our way to accommodate that," she said.

"They've called Robert up in the middle of the night needing bread and milk and he's gone down to open the shop up for them – that's the sort of relationship we have.

"That's what makes the community go round."
