Cadets benefit from bank donation

Summary

The Young Witness

A Commonwealth Bank raffle of a cricket bat signed by former Australian cricketer Mike Hussey has raised $440 for the Young Rural Fire Service cadets.

The local branch made the decision to donate the funds to the RFS during fire season last December.

Commonwealth Bank branch manager Andrew Turner said each year the Young branch got a signed cricket bat and made the choice of what to do with it.

"We just said let's help out local volunteers because those are the guys that are using their time," he said.

"[We thought] with all the fires going on at the time, they could use all the help they could get."

DONATION: Coach Samuel Tout, cadets Will Crisp and Nick McIsaac, Commonwealth Bank branch manager Andrew Turner, membership services officer David Nicholson, operations support manager Ashley Rolfe, and upfront one of youngest cadets of the team, Georgina Nicholson.

RFS cadet coach Samuel Tout said they were very grateful to the Commonwealth Bank, parents, and the local community for getting behind the cadets.

"Without the cadets there would be no RFS in the future," he said.

"This money will help them when they go away to the national championships in October, which we are the defending champions."

Mr Turner thanked Denise and Gail Butt for raising much of the funds.
