"It is pretty devastating really. It was frightening," she said.Catherine Frith said on Wednesday afternoon they had lost about 500 sheep in the blaze and all but 800 acres of their 4000 acre property had been burnt out. As well as losing livestock they also lost a hayshed and fodder in the fire.
She and Stephen bought the property about two years ago. They had been living in Canberra for 15 years before that.
They were evacuated from their property on Tuesday afternoon and were able to return at about 8pm that night.
"It was like driving through a European hill town, with all the little spot fires in the hills looking like houses with their lights on," she said.
