The scene at the Murringo catering staging area on Saturday morning looked to be one of exhaustion after another full night of fire fighting in the third fire local crews had attended in just three weeks.
"We can't go on like this," he said. "There's been a fire every week."And at only halfway through what is predicted to be a long hot summer, RFS Monteagle group captain Keith Butt questioned at the time how volunteers were going to make it through the unpreceded bad weather.
But by the time the fire had been contained he had no doubt in the volunteer's ability.
"I think everyone is quite prepared that we'll keep on having to do this; we'll keep on having to front up until March," he said.
"In our area, its been as hot and dry and as bad a fire season as I can remember."
"Everyone is committed to controlling these wrenched fires," he said. However, Mr Butt said he had full faith volunteer crews would continue to answer the call when needed.
"They deserve to be congratulated - they can be very proud of what they've done."
