Advice - Old Station Rd, Verges Creek (Kempsey LGA) 2019-08-18 12:44

Posted: 2019-08-18 12:44

A bush fire is burning in the Verges Creek area, approximately 5km north of Crescent Head, and has burnt more than 1,345 hectares. The fire is currently being controlled.

Current Situation

Firefighters supported by water bombing aircraft are directly attacking a small section of the fire on the south west corner as it has moved over Killick Creek.

Winds are forecast to be light and from the north east throughout the day, so it is likely that residents around Neville Morton Drive, Hibbard Lane, Penn Place, Kenno Place, Bass Lane, Maria River Road and areas south west of these locations will experience an increase in smoke.

There is no immediate threat to properties.

Backburning operations may be undertaken from the eastern side of Neville Morton Drive in the coming days when the winds turn south westerly. Access along Crescent Head Road may be affected if this backburn is implemented, so people should monitor the conditions and take advice from emergency personnel in the area.
