A large bush fire is burning at in the area of Busbys Flat, Wyan, Myrtle Creek and Rappville. The fire has burned approximately 47,790 hectares and is not yet under control.

Current Situation

The fire is burning in the area between Busbys Flat/Wyan and Bungawalbin.

Limited rainfall fell across the fireground on the weekend and whilst this assisted with close containment strategies in some areas, there was little to no rain in other areas of the fireground.

As fuels have started drying out again, firefighters with the assistance of aircraft have taken the opportunity to implement planned back burning operations around the Upper Mongogarie area in order to contain the north western edge. These operations will continue throughout the day.

Forecast weather conditions show increasing temperatures over the next few days, this will likely result in an increase in fire activity within identified containment lines.

Water bombing aircraft and heavy plant continue to assist ground crews as they work to control the fire.

Building Impact Assessment and Fire Research Teams will re-visit a number of areas over the coming days. They will be validating impact results and gathering information around fire behaviour.

The Summerland Way is now open however there may be smoke impact in some areas. Drive to the conditions and note that roads may be closed for short periods due to operational requirements.

Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you do not have a plan, decide what you will do if the situation changes. Leaving early is your safest option.
