Monday 4 May 2020 is St Florian's Day, a very special day for those in the firefighting family.

After more than 12 years as Commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons will leave the NSW RFS this month to take up a new role in NSW Government.

Congratulations to the six NSW RFS members named as recipients of the Australian Fire Service Medal, as part of the Australia Day Honours.

On behalf of the NSW Rural Fire Service, the NSW RFS Donations Trust, and our volunteers, thank you to everyone who has donated financially to recognise the incredible work done by our volunteers.

Thank you to the many members of the community who donated to support the families of firefighters killed during the 2019-20 bush fire season. The NSW RFS created dedicated appeals for the families of Samuel McPaul, Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O'Dwyer, and the funds have now been distributed in full to their families.

So many people have reached out to us, asking how they can lend a hand to people in bush fire affected areas, as well as our volunteers.

We've seen over the last few weeks the devastating impact that bush fires can have, and the incredible teamwork of firefighters and the community working together to protect what's important.
