Joint Training With NSW SES

Summary

NSW RFS and NSW SES members were recently put through their paces at a Down The Wire Technician workshop in western Sydney.

The workshop was held at Penrith Lakes and provided an opportunity for members from both agencies to hone their skills, and be accredited as down the wire technicians.

Down the wire technicians can be winched down from a helicopter to help people in need.

Recently, down the wire technicians helped more than 20 people who needed assistance during the floods which affected northern NSW in areas such as Lismore. Some of these people were stranded on roofs and in cars.

The NSW SES also provided flood boats for the training event.

Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant was on hand and had an opportunity to experience what it's like to be winched to safety.
