Assessment of last week’s fire affected areas completed

Summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) has completed the assessment of areas affected by last weekend’s bush fires.

NSW RFS Building Impact Assessment Teams have confirmed a total of 45 homes were destroyed in the fires, some of which occurred during Catastrophic fire conditions.

This does not include properties affected by the Carwoola bush fire near Queanbeyan yesterday.

The final damage assessment is as follows:

Sir Ivan Fire (Warrumbungle LGA)  

  • 35 homes destroyed  
  • 11 homes damaged  
  • 1 church destroyed
  • 1 community hall destroyed  
  • 131 outbuildings destroyed, 42 damaged

Pappinbarra (Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA)  

  • 6 homes destroyed
  • 3 homes damaged
  • 11 outbuildings destroyed

Spring Hill Road Dondingalong Fire (Kempsey LGA)  

  • 2 homes destroyed (one uninhabited)
  • 7 outbuildings destroyed

Binalong Road, Boggabri (Narrabri LGA)  

  • 1 home destroyed
  • 2 outbuildings destroyed

White Cedars Road (Mid Western LGA)  

  • 1 home (uninhabited)
  • 2 outbuildings destroyed

The Department of Primary Industries has also advised of extensive stock losses, including more than 2000 sheep and nearly 400 cattle. An estimated 5,700 kilometres of fencing has been potentially affected.

An initial assessment of the Carwoola grass fire is underway and an update will be made available today.
