Celebration for Northholm Grammar School graduating cadets

Summary

Twenty students from Northholm Grammar School in Arcadia today celebrated their successful completion of the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Secondary Schools Cadet Program.

NSW RFS District Manager Superintendent Mark Sugden congratulated the graduating students for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the nine-week course.

“As well as examining fire behaviour, the participants have learned essential fire safety techniques and gained an appreciation of the work that emergency services do every day across the state,” Superintendent Sugden said.

“The course teaches young people about the important contribution firefighters make to the local community, provides them with firefighting skills and fire behaviour knowledge and instills values such as teamwork, leadership and confidence.”

Superintendent Sugden thanked Northholm Grammar School for offering the NSW RFS Secondary Schools Cadet Program to its students for the seventh time.

“It is fantastic to see such genuine enthusiasm for this program and I would like to thank school Principal Lynne Guthridge for their support,” Superintendent Sugden said.

“I would also like to thank the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District volunteers and staff who helped deliver the program to the students.

"NSW RFS members enjoy working with schools and communities to ensure that everyone is as well prepared as possible for the very real threat of fire and the Service is proud to pass on the ideals of community service, dedication and teamwork to the next generation.”
