NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Mid Lachlan Valley Team have recognised the achievements of volunteers while celebrating the official opening of a new fire station and the handover of new vehicles today.

At a ceremony held near Condobolin, NSW RFS Regional Manager Paul Smith congratulated the members of the Avondale Rural Fire Brigade (RFB) on the official opening of their new station.

“This is the first station built for the Avondale Brigade, consisting of a single bay for the truck and water tank,” Mr Smith said.

“Funded by the Rural Fire Fighting Fund, this new station is worth more than $30,000 but to the members of this brigade, it is a priceless resource.

“The new station will enable volunteers to provide an even greater level of protection to the local community.

During the ceremony Mr Smith also officially handed over new Category 1 tankers to the Avondale Brigade and Weja Brigade, each worth $312,000.

"These new vehicles, replacing older style models, will enable the brigades to continue their outstanding work, and I would personally like to congratulate everybody on their ongoing hard work and professionalism,” Mr Smith said.

“The NSW RFS, state and local governments are committed to providing volunteer firefighters with the equipment they need to carry out the important work they do to protect their local communities from fire.”
