Celebrations for Rankin Springs volunteer firefighters

Summary

NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Region West Manager Paul Smith has congratulated five members of the Rankin Springs Rural Fire Brigade, and one member from the Yoolaroi Brigade on their long-standing commitment to the Service

Mr Smith paid tribute to the members' hard work and professionalism at a ceremony held in their honour, and acknowledged their unwavering dedication to the community.

"Whilst this area may have experienced drier conditions over the years, we all know how daunting the threat of bush and grass fires can be.

"It is the dedication of our volunteer firefighters that plays a crucial role in protecting communities in times of emergency – and it is this dedication that we are recognising today," Mr Smith said.

"These six gentlemen receiving Long Service Medals have more than 220 years experience between them, experience that continues to serve their communities well.

"They have all been members of the Service for more than 30 years, with Leonard Nevinson serving for 50 years. This is an astounding achievement, and one worthy of our gratitude.

"I know that these members being awarded this afternoon give up their time selflessly, and are driven by their commitment to helping their communities in times of emergency.

"Whilst these volunteers certainly don't expect awards or accolades, all of them are most worthy of our gratitude and thanks," said Mr Smith.
