Coffs Coast RFS members honoured

Summary

The commitment of NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers who have collectively dedicated more than 500 years of service to the Coffs Coast District will be recognised at a ceremony today.

Assistant Commissioner Kelly Quandt AFSM will be joined by special guests to present 27 Long Service Medals, five inaugural District Awards for outstanding service, and also officially hand over two new fire trucks.

“With between 10 years and more than four decades of service, the volunteers we recognise today have contributed a sizeable portion of their life to protecting others, including Ronald Adams with an impressive 46 years,” Assistant Commissioner Quandt said.

“Originally joining the RFS in 1977 as a member of the Boambee Brigade, John has held various roles over the years including Brigade Captain and has been a District Group Captain for 18 years.

“I also recognise the 42 years that Robert Pike has been with the Boambee Brigade since 1981, being an Executive Member of the brigade for three years and was Deputy Captain for 27 years.”

Additionally, five new District Awards will be presented to brigades and members for outstanding service and individual efforts.

During the ceremony, Assistant Commissioner Quandt will also hand over two Category 7 fire trucks with a combined value of more than $430,000 to the Fernmount and Woolgoolga Brigades, and the local Coffs Coast communities.

“The RFS is committed to ensuring its members have access to modern firefighting technology when preparing for and responding to fires and other incidents,” she said.

“Many RFS members go above and beyond for their brigades and local community, and it is fitting today to recognise the dedication they all show.

“Their professionalism does not go unnoticed and while they don’t do the work for praise, their bravery and commitment should be acknowledged, particularly on occasions like today.

“I also acknowledge those who support volunteers in what they do - the family, friends, employers and colleagues. We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and protect property.”
