Comobella Rural Fire Brigade celebrate new station

Summary

A new era began for the Comobella Rural Fire Brigade when NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Assistant Commissioner Steve Yorke officially declared open their new station open today.

Assistant Commissioner Yorke said the Comobella volunteers are thrilled with the new shed, which is the Brigade's first station.

Co-located with the local community hall, the station features two truck bays, a water tank, and provides members with access to meeting rooms and kitchen facilities.

Members of the Comobella Brigade donated their time and expertise during construction, laying the stations' concrete slab as well as installing electrical fittings and plumbing themselves.

"This station is a testament to how diligently and tirelessly the Comobella Brigade volunteers have worked to turn their dream of a new station into a reality," Assistant Commissioner Yorke said.

"The brigade's trucks were previously stored separately in farm sheds but now they are housed in a central location, along with the Brigade's equipment."

Assistant Commissioner Yorke thanked Wellington Council for its generous contribution towards the cost of the new station.

The Comobella Brigade has protected the local community from bush fires since it was first formed in 1945.

"Today, members of this Brigade continue to protect their community from bush fire as well as a diverse array of incidents including grass and house fires as well as motor vehicle accidents," Assistant Commissioner Yorke said.

"These men and women remain on-hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we should be extremely proud and grateful for their contribution.

"These volunteers also actively provide community fire education and training sessions whenever possible."
