Cudgegong District to celebrate long serving volunteers

Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders and NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons AFSM will present NSW RFS Long Service Medals to volunteers in acknowledgment of their long-standing dedication to the Service and to protecting the local community from fire.

“In total, these 36 recipients have between them devoted an incredible 955 years of service to the local community and of those, two recipients are being honoured for more than 60 years of service, which is truly inspiring,” Mr Saunders said.

“It is an absolute honor to present these awards and to take a moment in which we can reflect upon the outstanding achievements of these members.”

Commissioner Fitzsimmons has made particular mention of Long Service Medal 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th Clasp recipient Jim Lynch, who will be recognised for his incredible 67 years of service to the Cooyal Brigade.

”Since 1952, Jim has served as either Deputy Captain or Captain of the brigade and provides a great leadership and mentoring role to his colleagues,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

“Although Jim cannot make it to the presentation tonight it is fitting that he is recognised for his great contribution to the brigade and his local community.

Commissioner Fitzsimmons has also recognised the service of Malcolm Roth, who has been with the Lawson Brigade since 1953, serving as Captain for 25 years and will be presented with the Long Service Medal 5th Clasp.

“Malcom’s local knowledge and leadership continues to grow within the brigade and he is highly respected,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

“Every one of these volunteers are worthy of our most sincere thanks and I would like to personally commend them, not only for their commitment to the Service, but also to their community.

“We must also thank the family, friends and colleagues of all our volunteers. We know it takes their support and patience to help Rural Fire Service members do what they do.

“The hard work and professionalism of all Cudgegong District volunteers does not go unnoticed and this is a great opportunity for the broader community to express their gratitude and say thank you.
