Cumberland Zone volunteers praised for their long service

Summary

Cumberland Zone NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) volunteers have been honoured for their ongoing commitment to the local community.

Penrith MP Stuart Ayres presented twenty volunteers with Long Service and National Medals alongside NSW RFS Assistant Commissioner Rebel Talbert today.

Mr Ayres recognised that in total, these medal recipients have accumulated an impressive 482 years of service between them.

“This is just a remarkable milestone, and testament to the ongoing commitment shown by Cumberland Zone volunteers to both the NSW RFS, and the local community,” Mr Ayres said.

“The hard work and professionalism of all Cumberland Zone volunteers does not go unnoticed, and this is a great opportunity to express our gratitude and simply say thank you for the work that you do, in and for the community.

“I would also like to thank the family, friends and colleagues of all the medal recipients and all volunteers across the service. I know it takes a whole lot of support and patience from them as well, to help RFS members do what they do.”

Assistant Commissioner Talbert noted three of the recipients today who received a National Medal for their diligent service to their communities.

“I’d like to give particular mention to Stephen Weyman from Orchard Hills Brigade, and congratulate him for his amazing 54 years of service,” Assistant Commissioner Talbert said.

“Stephen joined the NSW RFS when he was 18 and played an integral role in the formation of the Orchard Hills Brigade, an achievement worthy of the National Medal.”

Assistant Commissioner Talbert also congratulated Laurence Coady, who has been a valued member of the NSW RFS for 51 years, and Shane Bryant with 43 years of service.

“Today’s recipients, as do all NSW RFS volunteers, dedicate themselves to providing a vital service to the community and these medals are our proud acknowledgement of their efforts,” Assistant Commissioner Talbert said.
