Gollan RFS Brigade applauds new station and Black Summer heroes

Summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Orana Team is today celebrating the opening of a new fire station at Gollan.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott MP joined NSW RFS Commissioner Rob Rogers AFSM and State Member for Dubbo, Dugald Saunders MP at a special event to mark the station’s official opening and thank volunteers for their service to the community during the devastating 2019/2020 bush fires.

“This excellent new station built at a cost of almost $225,000 is a modern, standalone, fit for purpose building that is greatly welcomed by the volunteers and the communities they serve,” Mr Elliott said.

“The new station has space for two tankers, as well as a training/ store room. The adjacent community hall provides bathroom amenities and additional space when required.

“Before this new station was built, the brigade’s tankers were stored at a neighbouring properties and brigade meetings were held in the Gollan Hall, so I am certain this new building is greatly welcomed by all and will assist with vehicle housing, training and the fighting of fires locally.”

The event also provided an opportunity to present 32 members of the Orana Team with NSW Premier’s Citations for their outstanding service during the 2019/2020 bush fires.

Commissioner Rogers applauded their efforts and said the NSW RFS is committed to providing volunteer firefighters with the equipment, infrastructure and resources they need to carry out the important work of protecting their local communities from fire and a diverse array of incidents.

“I would like to take this time to praise all our volunteers for their ongoing efforts each and every day, particularly when dealing with emergencies here in the Orana.

“We also thank the families, friends, employers and colleagues of these and all of our volunteers. We know it takes their ongoing support and patience which in turn enables NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers to do what they do to save lives and property.
