Graduating Camden Haven High School cadets honoured

Summary

Twenty one students from Camden Haven High School will today be congratulated for their successful completion of the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Secondary School Cadet Program, at a special ceremony held at Camden Haven High School.

NSW RFS District Manager Superintendent Kam Baker will praise the students who completed the program, noting it is the ideal way to introduce young people to the important role volunteer fire fighters play within communities.

"These cadets have completed the course which has given them skills that will last a lifetime,” Superintendent Baker said.

“As well as examining fire behaviour, the participants have been taught essential fire safety techniques and gained an appreciation of the work our emergency services do every day in this State.

"The cadet program also offers students the opportunity to experience firsthand the commitment and camaraderie that comes with volunteering.

“Today also marks a special occasion in the Secondary School Cadet Program, with the number of students graduating since its 2004 inception reaching 10,000.”

Superintendent Baker said this is the fourth year that Camden Haven High School has offered the NSW RFS Secondary School Cadet Program to its students.

“It’s great to see genuine enthusiasm for this important community based program and I would also like to extend a special thanks to the Principal, teachers and staff from Camden Haven High School for helping to make this program such a success,” Superintendent Baker said.

Superintendent Baker will also pay tribute to the volunteers and staff from the Mid Coast District who facilitated the course.
"NSW RFS members thoroughly enjoy working closely with schools and communities to ensure that everyone is as well prepared as possible for the very real threat of fire. Fire fighters cannot do it alone,” Superintendent Baker said.

“The Service is proud to pass on the ideals of community service, dedication and teamwork to the next generation.”
