Hargraves RFS Brigade celebrates new station

Summary

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Hargraves Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade is today welcoming an almost $1 million investment with the official opening of its new fire station.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott joined NSW RFS Assistant Commissioner Stuart Midgley at an event to mark the station’s official opening and thank volunteers for their ongoing service to the community.

“This excellent new station is a modern, fit for purpose building, which will double as the designated Neighbourhood Safer Place for the Hargraves community, as it is built to withstand the impact of a bush fire,” Mr Elliott said.

“It also has space for three tankers and I am sure it is greatly welcomed by the 64 current volunteer members of the brigade and the local community.”

Assistant Commissioner Midgley said he was pleased to officially open the new station.

“This new three bay building includes kitchen facilities, a training space, storeroom, office, showers, water storage, security system, air conditioning and internet access.” Assistant Commissioner Midgley said.

“The new station is a real boost to the Hargraves Brigade and will assist with vehicle housing, training and the fighting of fires locally as we come into the current fire season.”

Assistant Commissioner Midgley said the NSW RFS is committed to providing volunteer firefighters with the equipment, infrastructure and resources they need to carry out the important work of protecting their local communities from fire and a diverse array of incidents.

“I would like to take this time to praise all our volunteers for their ongoing efforts each and every day, particularly when dealing with emergencies here in the Cudgegong District.

“We also thank the family, friends, employers and colleagues of these and all volunteers. We know it takes their ongoing support and patience which in turn enables Rural Fire Service volunteers to do what they do to save lives and property.”
