Hornsby Ku-ring-gai RFS members honoured

Summary

The dedication and commitment of 39 NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers from across the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District will be recognised at a ceremony tonight.

RFS Assistant Commissioner Stuart Midgley AFSM will be joined by a number of special guests and present a National Emergency Medal, five Humanitarian Overseas Medals, 11 National Medals and 22 Long Service Medals.

“With years of service ranging from 10 to more than 50 years, many of these volunteers have contributed a sizeable portion of their life to protecting others, including Samuel Stuart Clark who is being recognised for an impressive 51 years of service,” Assistant Commissioner Midgley said.

“Originally joining the RFS in 1973, Samuel has been a member of multiple Brigades including Westleigh, Ku-ring-gai and now Killara and Hornsby Communications Brigades, holding various roles such as Brigade President, Training Officer, Captain, and Deputy Captain.

“I also recognise the five members receiving the Humanitarian Overseas Medal who were deployed in 2017 to British Columbia, Canada, to assist with fighting wildfires. They displayed bravery, selflessness and willingness to assist communities in need away from home.”

Assistant Commissioner Midgley said many RFS members go above and beyond for their brigades and local community, including the 11 receiving the National Medal tonight.

“Today we acknowledge and recognise the dedication they all show and share in protecting communities who need help,

“The professionalism of all RFS members does not go unnoticed and while they don’t do the work for praise, their bravery and commitment to the community should be acknowledged.

“I would like to take this time to praise all our volunteers for their ongoing efforts every day, particularly when dealing with emergencies not only in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai area, but further afield.

“We also thank the family, friends, employers, and colleagues of all RFS volunteers. We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and protecting property.”
