International Women's Day
Published Date: 07 Mar 2012
Summary
Thursday 8 March 2012 is International Women's Day.
International Woman's Day (IWD) is an annual day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. This event reminds us to celebrate the growing number of women in various roles throughout the NSW Rural Fire Service. With over 70,000 members, the NSW RFS is the largest volunteer fire service in the world, and women have played active roles in the NSW RFS since its beginning.
Each year, a growing number of women are choosing to become part of an organisation that is dedicated to helping the community, and these days around 26 percent of our volunteer membership and just over 30 percent of salaried members are female.
The theme for 2012 is Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures. To read some inspiring stories from our female members, take a look at the NSW RFS resource 'Making a Difference' Women in the NSW Rural Fire Service. The resource is available to download or if you would like a copy contact us at volunteer@rfs.nsw.gov.au.
