Long serving Chifley volunteers recognised

Summary

NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Region East Manager Chief Superintendent John Parnaby has congratulated volunteer firefighters from the Chifley area who have been recognised for their long and dedicated service.

NSW RFS Chief Superintendent Parnaby presented 28 recipients with a combination of National Medals and Long Service awards, amassing 875 years of service between them.

"This significant commitment demonstrates that the tradition of volunteering is thriving in this region," Chief Superintendent Parnaby said.

"These men and women each play a vital role in their community, whether they're fighting bush fires, attending road accidents or even assisting during storms or floods.

"It is an honour to present these awards and reflect upon the outstanding commitment shown by these members.

"I would particularly like to acknowledge Mr Ian Armstrong who is tonight receiving an award for 62 dedicated years service to his community.

"Ian joined the Edith Brigade in 1950 and during this time he has served the community as a Group Captain, the highest ranking volunteer position, for a total of 37 years.

"Ian has assisted at nearly all of the major fires in the area during his six decades as a member and is an inspiration to not only his fellow brigade members but also his local community," said Chief Superintendent Parnaby.

"All of the members being awarded National Medals or Long Service awards this evening are examples of the selfless commitment demonstrated by volunteers across NSW.

"Their hard work and professionalism doesn't go unnoticed and this is a great opportunity for the broader community to express their gratitude and say thank you.

"I would like to take this time to praise all our volunteers for their ongoing efforts each and every day, particularly when dealing with emergencies here in the Central West and right across New South Wales," concluded Chief Superintendent Parnaby.
