Long serving volunteers from Merriganowry honoured

The ongoing commitment of Merriganowry volunteer firefighters was recognised at an official ceremony held in their honour.

NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Region West Manager Paul Smith presented 15 members with Long Service Medals and congratulated them on their longstanding dedication.

"Each of the members being recognised today are perfect examples of the selfless and ongoing commitment demonstrated by volunteers right across NSW," said Mr Smith

"It is an absolute honour to be able to present these awards and I would personally like to acknowledge the tireless work undertaken by our members throughout Cowra.

"The 15 members being honoured today have amassed an incredible 428 years of loyal service to the NSW RFS.

"I would particularly like to acknowledge the efforts of Brian Shepherd as well as Brian and Gwen Jolliffee who are today receiving awards for more than 40 years of service to their community.

"Mr Shepherd has fulfilled many roles within his Brigade, dedicating 49 years to in volunteering for his local community. Brian's enthusiasm in helping his neighbours is an inspiration to many in the Merriganowry area."

"Brian and Gwen Jolliffe have amassed an incredible 84 years of service between them. They are both known for their dedication and dependability and are valued members of the Brigade.

"Whether it's responding to bush fire emergencies or attending car accidents and structure fires, our volunteers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"Our members don't volunteer their time for awards or accolades, however today is an opportunity for the wider NSW community to express our sincere thanks for their ongoing contribution," said Mr Smith.
