Volunteers from the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District have been celebrated for their long-standing commitment and the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Young Volunteer of the Year award has been presented to a member of the Berowra Waters Rural Fire Brigade.

NSW RFS Greater Sydney Area Command’s Superintendent Peter Marshall joined Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai District Manager Superintendent Mark Sugden to present the National Medal and Long Service Medal to 26 members and to award the NSW RFS Young Member of the Year last night at the District Fire Control Centre in Cowan.

Superintendent Marshall said every single one of these members should be proud of themselves and their dedication to protecting communities locally and across the state.

“Congratulations to the nine members who are receiving their National Medal today, for your diligent service, going above and beyond to protect others.” Superintendent Marshall said.

He also acknowledged the unwavering dedication of 18 volunteers receiving Long Service Medals for a combined 403 years of service and thanked them for selflessly giving their time.

“I would like to make particular mention of David Stockman who is being honoured for 44 years of service – your exceptional dedication has seen a constant amongst the Galston Brigade across the years,”

“We also thank the family, friends, employers and colleagues of all NSW RFS volunteers. We know it takes their ongoing support and patience to assist and enable our volunteers to do what they do to save lives and property.” Superintendent Marshall said.

Superintendent Sugden said the Young Volunteer of the Year Award recognises the positive impact young members have on their Brigade, benefits they have provided to the RFS and local community as well as their ongoing commitment, dedication and professionalism.

“Congratulations to Neve Rapsey from Berowra Waters Brigade on receiving this wonderful acknowledgement of your commitment and contributions,

“Since joining the Brigade at just 12 years old in 2017, Neve has developed confidence and the necessary skills, making her such a valuable member of the Brigade and our District,

“This is not her first recognition, having been awarded the Cadet of the Year Award in 2019 within her Brigade, before graduating into the senior ranks of the Brigade last year.”
