Muswellbrook High School – Rural Fire Service Cadets graduate

Summary

Nineteen students from the Hunter Valley's Muswellbrook High School have been presented with graduation certificates after successfully completing the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Secondary Schools Cadet Program.

NSW RFS Region East Manager Chief Superintendent John Parnaby congratulated the year nine and ten students on being the first students from the school to complete the program.

"This is the first year that Muswellbrook High has participated in the NSW RFS Cadets program, a program that continues to gather support across the Hunter," Chief Superintendent Parnaby said.

"These 19 young people have also shown great commitment and team work whilst learning valuable lessons about fire safety."

Chief Superintendent Parnaby presented the cadets with their graduation certificates during a ceremony at Muswellbrook High School today.

"Through the Cadet Program, these students have been given an insight into the NSW RFS ethos of community service, dedication and team work, along with the rewards of volunteering.

"I would like to thank the local NSW RFS volunteers, many who gave up their personal time to share their skills and knowledge with these cadets.

"Also the assistance in running the program provided by local NSW RFS staff and the staff from Muswellbrook High School must be commended."

Chief Superintendent Parnaby said more than 3000 students across the state had successfully completed the NSW RFS Secondary Schools Cadet Program since its launch six years ago.

"The NSW RFS has a great history of protecting the community during fires and helping out in times of emergency, and is proud to pass on those traditions to the next generation through the Secondary Schools Cadet Program.

"It is rewarding to know that many of those graduating here today may join their local Brigades and build on the skills they have obtained during the program."
