National Medals for RFS Blue Mountains members

Summary

The dedication and generosity of 40 NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers from the Blue Mountains District will be recognised today, with the presentation of national medals in appreciation of their service.

RFS Deputy Commissioner, Kyle Stewart APM, will be joined by special guests to present National Medals to members of the Blue Mountains District for diligent and sustained service.

“With years of service ranging from 15 to 57 years, many of these volunteers have dedicated a significant portion of their life to protecting others,” Deputy Commissioner Stewart said.

“Their professionalism has not gone unnoticed and while they do not do the work for praise, today’s event provides us with an opportunity to reflect on and acknowledge their commitment.”

Deputy Commissioner Stewart said the National Medal is presented to individuals who go above and beyond what is expected of active members within their brigade.

“I’d like to give a notable mention to Mt Riverview Brigade Life Member Dennis ‘Wayne’ Hancock who has dedicated more than 55 years to the RFS and local community, and was a founding member of the Mt Riverview Brigade,” he said.

“Within his Brigade, Wayne is deeply respected – not just for his service, but for his loyalty and fierce desire to see the brigade remain true to its roots.

“Another special mention goes to Colin Anlezark, who has given more than 50 years of service to the RFS,” he said.

“An enthusiastic member of the Linden Brigade, Colin has served the wider Blue Mountains District in safety and training roles,” said Deputy Commissioner Stewart.

“Wayne, Colin, and all our volunteers, can only carry out their critical work in protecting people and property, with the support of their family, friends, employers and colleagues.”
