NSW RFS Commissioner praises volunteers’ commitment

Summary

Longstanding volunteers across the Far West District will be honoured for their ongoing dedication by the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons as he visits the region this week.

"In total, this week's 101 Long Service Medal recipients have accumulated an impressive 3707 years of service between them," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

"Each and every one of these volunteers are worthy of our most sincere thanks and I would like to personally commend them, not only for their commitment to the Service, but also to their community.

"Each of these men and women provide a vital service to their community, whether they're fighting bush fires or conducting important hazard reduction."

Commissioner Fitzsimmons said fifteen members were being presented with Long Service Medals for more than 50 years service.

"It is an honour to present these awards and reflect upon the outstanding achievements of these members.

"The NSW RFS is at the cutting edge of bush firefighting due to significant improvements in technology, training, equipment and communications, however the real strength of the Service is its people," Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.

"These men and women have been part of the Service during an incredible period of growth and transformation and the experience and knowledge within their ranks illustrates this.

"All of the volunteers acknowledged today have demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment to their community over the years and these medals are just a small token of our appreciation."

Commissioner Fitzsimmons will be in the Far West District from Monday, 31 March 2014 until Thursday, 3 April 2014, attending six ceremonies over four days at Cobar, Euabalong, Ivanhoe, Darnick, Menindee and Broken Hill.
